January ‘26 Reads
Really Short Reviews
Before March is over, I guess I should review what I read in January…
As a reminder:
Pros and Cons reflect my own personal preferences, not the quality of the writing. What kind of stuff do I lean towards? A few highlights: likable main characters, some spice, quick pace, limited typos, no animal deaths…
I’m generally pretty generous with my stars:
⭐️ = I don’t think I’ve ever given a book one star. If I get tricked into an AI book, this is what it will get only because there are no negative stars.
⭐️⭐️ = It wasn’t for me, was too slow, too many typos, hard to follow
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Maybe not the most memorable but glad I read it and might be great for someone else
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Well written, kept my attention
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = LOVE, will tell a friend about it
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ = Couldn’t put it down and neglected my responsibilities and sleep for it
I reserve the right to adjust these rating definitions as needed 😉

Read on Kindle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I binged all 6 of these back to back (this is #5), so I had to read the description to remember which one this was. Startling and horrific and didn’t regret a second, like all of Slaughter’s novels.
Pros: It’s book 5 so I know and care about the characters even if I don’t like all of them cough Lena cough. Fast paced and unpredictable
Cons: Slaughter is graphic and I’m not always in the mood for it.
Audiobook ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I feel weird giving this 5 stars because I hate that it has to exist. It’s gut wrenching. And this was prior to the latest Epstein file release.
Pros: The story needed to be told. Everyone should read it.
Cons: The fact it’s a memoir and not fiction.
Read on Kindle ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fast paced and intricate. Might have been the most page turning of them all.
Pros: Gets you invested from the start
Cons: THE ENDING iykyk
Audiobook ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my first book by Jeneva Rose and I enjoyed it. I didn’t love the FMC but I was invested pretty quick.
Pros: Good audio, keeps you guessing
Cons: Not clear who you’re pulling for (which might be a pro to some people)
Audiobook ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+
Holy crap I loved this book. It’s YA and I don’t think I knew that until I got a little ways in but I didn’t even care. There’s so much personality and quick pace and I just loved it. Good Girl’s Guide to Murder vibes.
Pros: Fabulous audio, great pace, characters are well developed
Cons: Honestly I can’t recall any
